5 Actresses Who Could Replace Ruby Rose As Batwoman

Kate Kane’s Recast

After one season, Ruby Rose has stepped down from the titular role on the CW’s Batwoman. For context, according to Screenrant, “The CW’s Arrowverse introduced Kate Kane/Batwoman in the 2018 Elseworlds crossover, where she was played by Ruby Rose. Then, in fall 2019, Rose went on to star in the solo Batwoman series.” Batwoman is part of the CW’s crossover universe that originated with their series Arrow. It now includes The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. Currently, the CW is looking to recast Batwoman, so here are our top five choices for Kate Kane.

1. Karen Gillan

If Karen Gillan wants to take a break from making Marvel movies and playing around in Jumanji world, she could make an excellent Batwoman. She already has television experience from starring on Doctor Who, and she’s all-around a great actress. A favorite piece of trivia is that she actually appeared on Doctor Who first not as Amy Pond, but in 2008 as a soothsayer in the episode “Fires of Pompeii”. Gillan is a great actress. She could bring something really special to Batwoman’s character if she wanted to go back to television.

2. Ashley Madekwe

From watching her as Tituba on Salem and Ashley Davenport on Revenge we know Ashley Madekwe can do drama; she’s also an expert on playing television roles. She started her career in 1999 on the series The Bill, a British police procedural that was on the air from 1983 until 2010. Recently she’s been on Revenge, Salem, The Umbrella Academy as Detective Eudora Patch, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Tell Me a Story, a web series anthology on CBS All Access.

3. Alyson Stoner

Sure, she started her acting career on the Disney Channel; it’s true that the majority of her work has been voice-acting for animated features. But we should really give Alyson Stoner the benefit of the doubt; she’s proved she has the chops to do voice-acting—playing characters on Phineas and Ferb and The Legend of Korra—so why not Batwoman? Plus, she looks awesome with that buzzcut.

4. Jade Tailor

Currently, Jade Tailor is a fan favorite to replace Ruby Rose as Batwoman. She played Kady Orloff-Diaz in all five seasons of The Magicians, so we know she’s got the talent to star in another television role. Graphic artist Apexform even imagined what Tailor would look like as Batwoman with a phenomenal piece of artwork. Not only is Tailor a great actress, she has the added benefit of most resembling Ruby Rose for the sake of the recast.

5. Hannah Simone

This choice is honestly a little out of left field. Hannah Simone most prominently played Cece on the comedy New Girl alongside Zooey Deschanel. But, based on what she does with Cece’s character, Simone knows how to play strong, powerful, yet vulnerable characters, which is perfect for Batwoman. She’d be great for a more seasoned Batwoman than the one we currently have.
