5 Comics Not to Miss This Week

Every hero on earth gets the same phone call, a hero gets stuck between a plant and a hard place, a man returns to the home he left as a boy, a gaggle of mentally unstable killers follow one of their own, and the oddest brother/sister adventure since “How Donnie Got His Purple Socks”. No, we haven’t been taking advantage of Colorado’s new laws, we’ve gone through this week’s comic releases and determined 5 Comics Not to Miss This Week!)

Continuing with Marvel NOW! Releases (one wonders if they will ever run out of titles to add exclamation points to the covers of), Avengers #1 picks up after the event of Avengers vs. X-Men with Captain America expanding the team’s roster, and becoming a more global and even intergalactic force. Who will the new roster include? Pretty damn near everyone, as far as I can tell. Even the highly underutilized Wolverine is set to make an appearance. (If there was ever a need for a universal sarcasm tag, that last sentence was proof.)

Batman faces Poison Ivy in this continuation of last issue. Well Poison Ivy and her new lover…Clayface? Honestly, do the superpowered community just have no taste? Or is it like dating someone from work, just because you never have a chance to meet anyone else? Anyway, with this being part of the “Death of the Family” event, we can expect more hi-jinks from the Joker. Will we find out where he is keeping Alfred? Probably not, but at 40 pages long it is certain to be an entertaining read.

Well, Hellboy ended his last adventure sacrificing himself to save the world. What next? Well Hell, of course. Mike Mignola returns to draw his creation for the first time since Conqueror Worm, in a story that only he can tell. What awaits Hellboy when he gets there? Find out with this #1!

Red Hulk, Venom, Elektra, Deadpool, the Punisher. So, diplomacy is probably not on the agenda for this team. Seemingly taking a page from the Uncanny X-Force‘s playbook, this team will be taking on foes that need to be put down, permanently. Hopefully they start with One Direction.  But can General Ross keep this team together long enough to accomplish these goals, or will these notorious lone-wolves tear each other apart before the fun even begins?

Last issue saw the Huntress of Earth 2 meeting her parallel world brother, Robin. While Helena and Damian search for who threat to Wayne Enterprises is, that same threat is stalking them. Plus, Power Girl continues to try to find the connection between this Earth, Earth 2 and Apokolips, but her investigation gets cut short by a group of heavily armed (even for the New 52) 10 year olds. Will Damian avoid being spanked by Helena? Will Power Girl manage to keep her entire costume on? Will George Perez produce more than 2 pages of art? Get Worlds Finest #15 to find out!

About the author

Mark Driscoll

When not ranting about the current state of his favorite comics or working on The Magic Cantina, Mark spends a majority of his time renovating his newly purchased, 120 year old Victorian house. Badly. He is very bad at talking about himself in the third person, as he thinks it make him sound pretentious.
