5 Comics Not to Miss This Week

Yar, a gaggle of beauties spin space-faring yarns, two men who be sharing the same name finally team up to defeat the picaroon who be causing them much torment, a wee sprog goes on the account, five bucceneer’s whose tales been told are brought back for one more tale, and our favorite corsair hoists the colors against scurvy dogs from the future. No, we’ve not been having a stroke,  we’ve gone through this week’s comic releases and determined 5 Comics Not to Miss This Week, for International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Womanthology: Space #1

Womanthology: Space, starts off with the first of five out-of-this-world issues: Moon. Each issue contains three 6-page stories, plus pinups, how-tos, and more, by women of all ages and experience. Check out a haunted space station, a snarky robot, and so much more in this debut issue.

Spider-Men #5

The conclusion to the Spider-Men mini-series is here! Will Peter return to his own dimension? Will Miles gain his idol’s endorsement? Will The Ultimates make an appearance? Will Mysterio continue to be a second string villain, incapable of even the simplest plan? Will Nick Fury scowl? While I strongly suspect the answers to all of these questions will be “yes”, you’ll need to pick up the book and find out!

Justice League #0

After months of being relegated to the sidelines of backup stories, Captain Marvel Shazam, finally comes to the forefront in this origin tale. Wait, weren’t the backup stories his origin anyway? No matter, the reason this book is one not to be missed is for the back-up story, which features the mysterious Pandora, and lays the groundwork for the upcoming Trinity War event.

DC Universe Presents #0

Only a year in, and the New 52 has seen several cancellations. Well they are bringing some of those characters back in this special, over-sized edition of DC Universe Presents. The Blackhawks’ Mother Machine, Hawk and Dove, Mister Terrific and O.M.A.C are all featured in stories that will continue to play out across the entire DC Universe. If you thought any of these books got cancelled before its time, here is your chance to see your favorite characters again!

Star Trek The Next Generation: Hive #1

Captain Picard and the Crew of the Enterprise-uhm…lets say P, are once again the galaxies only hope from complete domination by the Borg. The only problem is that they’ve already failed, as in the far future, the entire galaxy has been assimilated by them, led by their king, Locutis! Will the present day (or I suppose, not so far future) Picard find a way to change the future? Find out int this new mini written by Brannon Braga!

About the author

Mark Driscoll

When not ranting about the current state of his favorite comics or working on The Magic Cantina, Mark spends a majority of his time renovating his newly purchased, 120 year old Victorian house. Badly. He is very bad at talking about himself in the third person, as he thinks it make him sound pretentious.
