Hulu Picks Up A Mini-Reboot of Veronica Mars
Fans of the amateur sleuth Veronica Mars (played by Kristen Bell) can rejoice. She is returning to solve even more mysteries and stir up more trouble in the rich and beautiful Neptune, California. This comes even after the movie, which concluded the plot, came out almost five years ago.
The movie was actually a successful Kickstarter campaign–the most successful of the time–that raised $3.7 million.
Veronica Mars ran on UPN/CW from 2004 to 2007.
What We Know
There is a lot up in the air about the episodes. Hulu has not confirmed any plot details about it or even a release date. Even the show’s star, Bell, is not yet confirmed to return to the show. But if she didn’t, what would be the point of the mini-reboot? The most we know is that Nellie Andreeva from Deadline heard about Hulu negotiating with Bell and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas.
Because of the movie, the show could take the narrative pretty much anywhere it wants to go. Bell is currently starring in the Netflix comedy The Good Place, but the reports say the Veronica Mars filming would not interfere with that schedule, to allow for Bell’s return.
Really, everything for this production is very early on. Thomas and Bell seem to be on board and are making arrangements to put it together. More news will likely be coming from Bell and Thomas, as well as Hulu, as production moves forward. With everything wide open, anything could happen for these favorite characters.
Thomas actually tweeted Monday, feeling nostalgic about the show, a selfie of him today next to a picture of him and Bell during the original run of Veronica Mars. He joked: “Just remembering those glorious days of yore, wishing I could relive those years when I had hair. #VeronicaMars.”
