A.K.A Jessica Jones: What the BFF?

You see what happens, Carol? Huh, Captain Marvel? You see what happens? Sure, you can run off and book yourself a big feature film, but guess what: You’re getting replaced as the BFF.

Burns, doesn’t it?

It’s been a big week for the upcoming Netflix original series A.K.A. Jessica Jones. On Thursday, Marvel followed up the casting announcement of David Tennant as the Purple Man with another huge casting decision. Australian–native and Grey’s Anatomy alum Rachael Taylor will be stepping into the role of Jessica Jones’ best friend.

Nowm as many comic fans know, and as I bitterly lamented above, Jessica Jones’ best bud is a spot traditionally reserved for Ms. Marvel herself, Carol Danvers. But since Carol Danvers will be the title character in 2018’s Captain Marvel, the studio has chosen to shake up the classic pairing. This was most likely done in an attempt to avoid any fan confusion with the MCU/Netflix series continuity.

Subbing in for Danvers will be Taylor playing the part of Patricia “Trish” Walker (aka Hellcat). Trish is a former child-star and model, as well as a talk-radio host. She’s also a woman bound to be right there in the thick of things as her friend Jessica, played by Krysten Ritter, works what could be the most life-threatening case of her young detective career.

And who knows? Maybe at some point she’ll develop a super identity of her own.

With the inclusion of both Trish Walker and the Purple Man, it’s easy to see that the cast of characters in A.K.A. Jessica Jones is shaping up incredibly well. The show now boasts the following: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Zebediah Killgrave, and Patricia Walker. These are four characters with the potential to create an amazing television show. With all bets on the table, I’d say that out of all the Marvel series that will be premiering on Netflix- Daredevil, A.K.A Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage – I’d put my money on this one.

We’ll see what Carol Danvers has to say about that.

Look out for A.K.A Jessica Jones sometime in 2015. And if you Jessica Jones crash course you should check out Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias. Trust me, it’s freakin’ awesome.
