Activision Faces Potential Class Action Lawsuit?

A Bungie Reaction

Okay, first thing is first. There are reports saying Activision is being sued in a class action lawsuit by some of their stockholders for the release of Bungie and the rights to the hit game Destiny. I’ve personally gone to the website for the law firm, Kuznicki Law PLLC, reported to be suing Activision. They post their class action cases. As of now, there is no such information on their website. So as of now, according to the law firm’s website and an Inside Gaming video; the law firm has publicly revealed their legal intent to try to find investors who would want to take part in a class action lawsuit. The deadline offered shuts down on March 19 of this year.

So to be clear, Activision is not currently being sued. Many articles and post around the internet are just stating this without looking into. Now, let’s dive into this a bit more!

A Closer Look

So where does all this come from? Bungie, the creators of Destiny, were in a publishing agreement with Activision that had been in play for the past 8 years and was set to continue. According to the Inside Gaming video, this past January, Bungie had accepted $100 million from the Chinese company NetEase to further its plans to self publish.

That’s when things get a bit tricky. After the news of the split, Activision’s stocks drop drastically with losing the rights to the Destiny franchise. So that’s where Kuznicki Law PLLC comes in. The Inside Gaming video points out that on Kuznicki Law PLLC website they state to, “represent individual and institutional investors alike in complex class action litigation, seeking recovery of investment losses for shareholders of publicly-traded companies.”

Apparently, Activision was misleading with the direction the company was moving forward with Bungie. They also did not make it clear to stockholders they’d be ending the contract with Bungie in a timely manner.

Sound Off

How do you see all this going down for Activision? Are you happy Bungie left? How do you think this will affect Destiny in the long run? Let me know in the comments down below!
