Agent Coulson Appears in Captain Marvel Trailer

New Captain Marvel Sneak Peek Bring Agent Coulson Back

Marvel aired the new Captain Marvel trailer during the College Football National Championship game between Clemson and Alabama. The one and a half minute trailer had just one second that showed the return of Agent Coulson, one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All we see is him dramatically removing his sunglasses.

Agent Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) appeared to be killed by Loki in the first Avengers movie. However, he went on to star in Agents of SHIELD as a central character.

More on Captain Marvel

Agent Coulson appears much younger in Captain Marvel, as does Agent Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson). It takes place before the other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, save for Captain America: The First Avenger, which took place during WWII. We do not know yet what Agent Coulson’s role in this film will be since it is before The Avengers and Agents of SHIELD.

We do see a close relationship between Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson) and Nick Fury, though. The pair seem to have a seventies buddy cop vibe between them, which promises to be entertaining. Hopefully, their relationship remains platonic. I really want this movie to be about Captain Marvel on her own and creating her own story. That is the kind of movie we need right now.

I won’t worry too much, as the trailer shows our girl kicking plenty of Skrull ass. Skrulls are the alien species trying to take over Earth in the movie. Fans were shocked and amused by the clip of Captain Marvel punching an old lady in the face (presumably a Skrull in disguise).

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.
