Agents of Wakanda Replace S.H.I.E.L.D. in Avengers #12

No S.H.I.E.L.D., No Problem

Currently, in the Marvel Universe, there is no S.H.I.E.L.D., not since the evil version of Captain America took them over and used them for Hydra (comicbook.com has the rundown). There are a lot of threats throughout the Marvel Universe that S.H.E.I.LD. took care of. They always had their hands in something and the intelligence they brought to situations was unmatched. The current leader of the Avengers, T’Challa, the Black Panther, understands the need for an organization like this. So, in Avengers #12 he forms his own agency to help: the Agents of Wakanda!

Getting the Team Together

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers #12

In Avengers #12 Black Panther assembles his team of agents to help the Avengers. Some are brought in for more basic needs of the new Avengers headquarters, like Gorilla-Man for security and Broo to run the IT department. He also has Odin as a secret advisor. T’Challa still has to assemble his Agents of Wakanda, and what is an Agency without a director?

T’Challa rightfully appoints Okoye, his fiercest and trusted warrior, as director of his new Agents of Wakanda. She does have some questions about the recruits, though. Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp, is already tested and true, from her many years of adventures as an Avenger and recently helping free Blade from Vampire captivity. She does wonder what Ka-Zar from the Savage Land brings to the table, though.

T’Challa makes sure to cover all of his bases. Astronaut and Man-Wolf John Jameson keep track of deep space missions. Adding the supercop Jason Strongbow “American Eagle” and Dr. Nemsis brings some detective work to the group as well. “Roz” Solomon has also switched from former Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Agent of Wakanda. You also need an immortal weapon, and Fat Cobra has joined the team!

T’Challa is also in talks with Mockingbird, Shang-Chi, and Ant-Man to join his Agents of Wakanda. Not everyone was as accepting of the Black Panther’s invite. The Valkyrie Brunnhilde declined the offer. Marc Spector, the Moon Knight, also declined to join the Agency, unfortunately.

Conclusion

Avengers #12 was packed full of cool setups for things to come. Not only did we get to meet the new team members of the Agents of Wakanda, but we also learn a lot about the war of the vampires storyline coming up in the Avengers. Things are brewing between the undead factions in the Marvel Universe and the Avengers are going to have to stop it. Luckily their newest recruit, Blade, knows all about vampire killing!

You can get a whole rundown of the list of characters and powers that joined the agency here. Do you like who is on the team? Is there someone from the Marvel Universe you would like to see on the Agents of Wakanda? Let us know in the comments.
