A Farewell to Alan Harris
Alan Harris, best known for playing bounty hunter Bossk in The Empire Strikes Back, had passed away, according to his appearance manager, Zachary McGinnis. In a statement to SYFY WIRE, McGinnis told them that Harris “had been battling undisclosed health problems…”
Many fans had enjoyed getting to meet the actor through his appearances at conventions. For many of our favorite actors, this is a common way they get to interact with fans. I think it’s an opportunity we tend to take for granted, especially due to our ability to interact with some of our favorite actors online.
Harris spent years traveling around the convention circuit. He shared stories and behind-the-scenes info about the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, along with the other Star Wars films because he was there, too (So Cool).
In the SYFY WIRE article, McGinnis goes on to say Harris “loved and lived every moment to the fullest.” I think we need to take that message to heart. It’s tough, but we all have a limited time on this planet. It’s our job to make the most out of it just like Alan Harris did.
Take a Moment
We can all get caught up in our fandoms and lose sight of why we love these movies and comics so much. But we should always remember it’s about the community. The people we get to meet and become friends with. The hours of chatting about our favorite scenes. The road trips to go see our favorite actors. All of this is why we love this. We need to live like Harris and enjoy every moment of it, because we don’t know how long we have.
Did you ever get to meet Alan Harris at a convention? Were you scared of Bossk like I was as a kid? What’s your favorite memory from a convention? Let me know down in the comments below, and remember to show love to those who create the things we love, because they made our childhoods.
