What Could Have Been

Thanos’s “snap” in Infinity War had a massive effect ton the MCU. Effectively taking out half of the Univers’s population. Not only where most of our favorite MCU heroes turned to dust, but normal everyday people as well. Parents, siblings, pets; with a snap half of them vanished. While Avengers: Endgame slightly touched on the topic and it seems Spider-Man: Far From Home may expand on the topic more. We don’t really know how it affected everyday people that much in the MCU. Joe Russo notes that there were plans for Black Widow to play a role in helping those that lost loved ones.

Via Geeky Tyrant Joe Russo spoke with the Slate Podcast The Gist about a possible alternate story for Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame

“One thing that we talked about a lot—and I thought was really profound, but it was almost too large of an idea for us to wrangle, but we did try for a while—is just the idea that one-quarter of all children have no parents. Assuming you started with two parents. So that’s a lot of global orphans. Just the staggering number of that. I believe at one point really early in development, Black Widow was actually leading the organization in D.C. that was in charge of orphans, basically. That was what she was heading up five years later. But yes, it’s fascinating when you start running it down.”

That would be a pretty heavy event to focus on and obviously with so much going on in Endgame it would have been hard to expand upon in a short amount of time. But it is interesting that this was a possible story line at one point in time.

Five Years

The whole five year time jump accompanied by who got “snapped” away and who stayed will obviously be a big theme going forward in the MCU. How did this affect characters and the world as a whole? The Russo brothers obviously thought about this when starting Avengers: Endgame. There are still a lot of questions that probably won’t be answered about how the world worked and what happened after Thanos’s first snap in Avengers: Infinity War.

What do you think about this possible alternate story for Black Widow? Would you have like to see it include din Avengers: Endgame? Let us know in the comments.
