One of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Novels is Being Turned Into a Movie
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, by Terry Pratchett, is getting adapted into an animated movie! Okay, so it may seem strange that they’re starting with the 28th novel in the Discworld series, but bear with us here.
Terry Pratchett‘s Discworld series is a whopping forty-one novels (and that’s not counting novellas!). While it may be a bit intimidating to tackle the series, it has proven time and again to be a fantastic world to dive into.
Self-containment is the name of the game in the Discworld series. Meaning that every story has a full plot, and that you don’t really need to read them in any order. (Though they do refer to each other sometimes, so there might be spoilers). The major exceptions to this rule would be The Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic. You should really read these two together, given the chance.
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents was the first novel in the Discworld series that Terry Pratchett truly wrote for children. Sure, many of us had read the rest of the series as children…even if maybe that wasn’t always the best call. But this one was actually designed for children. And that makes it perfect for becoming an animated movie targeted towards children.
This novel is a bit of a twist on the classic tale of the Pied Piper. But of course, it’s not quite that simple. It also fits in perfectly with Discworld, which should be telling.
Ulysses Filmproduktion and Cantilever Media have obtained the rights for this adaptation. And we’re desperately hoping that they will be faithful to the series. They’ve already assigned Toby Genkel to be the director for the movie. Another major decision they’ve made? Terry Rossio wrote the screenplay.
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know about the adaptation for now. But we’re eagerly awaiting more news!
