A brand new batch of Ant-Man posters have hit the web and they have one message: Ant-Man is, in fact, tiny. The Marvel Studios production is slated for release on July 17, and they are not holding back when it comes to marketing this film. More and more TV spots are being released, Kevin Feige and company are doing the rounds talking to various news outlets, and now the endless wave of character posters are being released. (side-note: it was no accident that Marvel announced Tom Holland as Spider-Man this week. If they started doing the Ant-Man press rounds with that question still in the air, every question would be about the mysterious Spider-Man casting).
As mentioned before, here are the “Ant-Man is Small” character posters:
I understand that the goal of these posters is not to explain how big Ant-Man is. In reality, these are your run-of-the-mill character posters. Like The Avengers and The Hobbit before them, these posters are showing off the entire cast and it is a fun element having the small superhero hanging out on someone’s shoulder. That being said, the majority of these posters are not that well done and are OBVIOUS in their photoshop. Corey Stoll’s (who will be playing Yellow Jacket) poster is probably the worst offender.
Ant-Man’s Connection to The Avengers
Though it has been pretty ridiculous, I like that Marvel is having fun with the marketing of this film. There have been sightings of small ant-sized billboards, the trailers know that the film is pretty strange and have been playing up the comedic aspect, and last month Marvel released some very-fun posters that connect the hero to his Avenger brethren.
These posters have one message and one message only: “LOOK THIS IS A MARVEL MOVIE!” While I like that they are doing their best to connect this film with the greater Marvel universe, the best thing to come out of Ant-Man’s marketing is the fan response. In the same vein as the Avengers posters, this fan-made poster hit the web:
This is a shout out to a comic scene fans are crying out to see in live-action form:
Once it was announced that Ant-Man would appear in Captain America: Civil War alongside Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, it was set in stone for fans, we HAVE to see this happen on the big screen.
Ant-Man comes out on July 17, 2015.
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
