With the impending release date of July 1st, the marketing for Terminator Genisys is in full swing. Paramount has released a wide array of clips and behind-the-scenes looks. In this post we are just going to look at one aspect of the movie. Next to having James Cameron involved in the production of the film, this is the one thing that screams legitimacy when it comes to making a Terminator movie: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In the “Arnold’s Back” Featurette, the majority of the cast and the director chime in on what it is like working with Schwarzenegger and how they couldn’t make a Terminator film without him. Right now the level of hype for this film is not what Paramount wants it to be (i.e. low). Earlier this month they were able to get the coveted endorsement from James Cameron and now it looks like they are banking on their other classic Terminator connection, the Terminator himself.
That’s pretty much it when it comes to the content of this featurette: cast and crew geeking out about Arnold. There are some observations to be made from watching the video. One, I guess I should have known this, but the three stars of the movie are all using American accents in the film. Jason Clarke (John Conner), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese) and Emilia Clarke (Sarah Conner) are all speaking in their native accents here (either Australian or English) in the video and it is humorous seeing these real people speak casually about the Terminator (a death machine).
Second observation, I guess I haven’t been paying close enough attention to know that J.K. Simmons was even in this film. The man just won a well deserved Oscar for his chilling role in Whiplash (highly recommend that film to all the musicians out there) and his next role is what looks to be a government operative in a huge summer blockbuster. I can’t say I am too excited about the actual film, but the cast Terminator Genisys has lined up is full of talent and I hope they do something special.
Side-note: WHERE IS MATT SMITH? As far as I know, he hasn’t appeared in any of the trailers or any of the promotional material. I can think of a few people that would be excited to see Smith in the promotional material of this film.
Terminator: Genisys is being released on July 1, 2015. It is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, episodes of Game of Thrones), written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and Emilia Clarke.
Here is a bonus video for you: Arnold hit the streets of Hollywood as the Terminator and had a great time pranking people. “Don’t bump my selfie stick” might just be my new favorite Swarzennegger quote.
