Avengers 4: New and Old Assemble
Leaked promo art for the upcomingĀ Avengers 4Ā found its way online. The art shows Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembling with a line-up featuring heroes new and old. We’ll break down all the art for you below, but beware, spoilers abound forĀ Avengers: Infinity WarĀ andĀ Ant-Man and The Wasp!
Bringing the Fight to Thanos
When we last saw the Avengers, the team didn’t look so mighty. They suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Thanos, and half the team disappeared. The final shots ofĀ Infinity WarĀ featured the heroes mourning their friends and Thanos looking over a serene valley, pleased with his work. Since those devastating final moments, fans clamored for more info about the finale of theĀ Infinity War saga. But even by Marvel’s standards, the company is remaining extremely tight-lipped about the whole affair.
However, a ship as big as Disney doesn’t get by without a few minor leaks, and its Marvel properties are no exception. Promotional art for the untitledĀ Avengers 4 found its way online, and holy moly does it bring some fun questions to the table. Nothing about the art reveals anything about the plot of the film, but some of the art raises questions about what the heroes have been doing since The Snap. Let’s break it all down below.
The Heroes Stand On Their OwnĀ
First up is a pretty standard picture of Rocket Raccoon. He’s on the attack, but when is he not? Rocket is one of the few Guardians this side of The Snap, and with the heartbreaking revelation that Groot’s final words were “Dad?” you can bet he’s out for blood.
Then, we get a shot of the God of Thunder himself, Thor. Once again, not much has changed. He’s still wielding Storm Breaker and working that bionic eye. It’s been a tough time for the king of Asgard; he’s got a lot of avenging to do.
Up next is Captain Marvel. Certainly, this isn’t a photo, but she still looks powerful enough to take on the Mad Titan single-handedly.
Here’s where it starts to get interesting. InĀ Infinity War, Hulk went toe to toe with Thanos and lost his first fight ever. Understandably, Hulk didn’t want to come out for round two in this film. However, seeing his friends reduced to dust might be the push he needs to overcome his fear and do some serious smashing. Also, he’s wearing a spandex suit. Perhaps the Avengers are headed to space for their final showdown with Thanos?
Leaders, Friends, Rivals
The last individual hero shots feature the two former heads of the Avengers. Iron Man and Captain America. Iron Man is in his full nanobot suit, seen on display in the last film. Tony’s face isn’t visible, but it’s safe to say he and Steve will make up and overcome Thanos together. Speaking of Steve, the former hero and current war criminal ditched the Solid Snake beard and hair and is back to his boy-scout look. Furthermore, he boasts a new, clean Captain America costume.
The Group Comes Together
Finally, there’s a shot of the group headed into battle together. A lot of it is the individual shots we revealed above, but there are two key things happening in this shot. First, Ant-Man is part of the group. The post-credits scene ofĀ Ant-Man and The Wasp left Scott Lang in the Quantum Realm. Somehow, he made it out and is facing down purple Bruce Willis with the rest of the gang.
Lastly, Hawkeye joins the fray! Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton was conspicuously absent fromĀ Infinity War, but he’s nearly front and center here. InĀ Age of Ultron,Ā we met Clint’s family. A popular fan theory suggests his family turned to dust and he’s out for revenge. Either way, it’s good to see him back in action.
That does it for the leaked promo art. A lot of this will end up on toys/merchandise in the future, but for now, it’s nice to see what might be in store forĀ Avengers 4!
