Marvel announces the beginning of filming for The Avengers: Infinity War with a start of production featurette.
Marvel is gearing up for one of the largest cinematic events in history with The Avengers: Infinity War. To celebrate the culmination of over a decade of work, Deadline reports that Marvel released a production video blog. The video features several talking head interviews including head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo. In addition to their insight, viewers are treated to some early concept art, footage of one of the sets, and a neat shot of a post-it note laden copy of The Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus. Check the video below.
Pretty cool, right? It’s a fun tease at what’s to come for the shattered Avengers team. Also, the concept art potentially teases the events of Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The retrospective nature of the video shows how far the MCU has come. And Kevin Feige fostered it into the blockbuster juggernaut it is today. Not to mention, the Russo Brothers made their way from directing television sitcoms to directing arguably the two best movies in the MCU. Marvel fans have every reason to be excited about The Avengers: Infinity War. Marvel has a stellar track record and continually sets the bar for the “shared universe” model. However, Marvel fans also have every reason to be cautious about the film.
The Russo Brothers previously discussed the possibility of Infinity War containing up to 67 characters. The sheer idea of giving that many characters a satisfying amount of screen time seems an impossible task for the film makers. In addition, it is asking a lot of an audience to juggle that many story and character threads. Marvel hasn’t made an outright disastrous film to date, so there might be hope for it yet. Production will take the better part of the next year. As a result, we are sure to get a better idea of the quality of the film through additional production updates.
The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 hits theaters May 4th, 2018.
