As anticipated, the Warner Bros. SDCC panel did treated the audience of the famous Hall-H to the latest sizzling trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Without having to do a lot of speculating, there are obvious flashbacks to Man of Steel and the apparent destruction of Wayne Tower during Superman’s battle with General Zod. Bruce Wayne witnesses the mass destruction and loss of life left in the aftermath of the battle and in true Bruce fashion, decides that only HE can do something about it. There is also a shot of Zod’s body among the new footage from the film. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is featured in several scenes. The aftermath of Superman’s saving the world isn’t going the way anyone would have visualized. Superman has very few allies outside of Lois Lane, Martha Kent and surprisingly Alfred Pennyworth.
Jessie Eisenberg’s slightly hairier then usual Lex Luthor is chilling along with Holly Hunter, as she calls Superman to a Senate hearing. The film’s even darker tone stands out greatly in the trailer, coupled with glimpses of some amazing action sequences. The conflict between Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman is played up deliciously and does its intended job of leaving us wanting more.
Sadly there is no mention of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, but this trailer does an excellent job of filling in some gaps left by the first as well as confirms a lot of rumors that have been floating around for months. There is no doubt in my mind that once Star Wars fever has had a chance to subside this December, the hype machine will begin to rev up once again for the March 25th release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Until then, enjoy the trailer…over and over.
