Benicio Del Toro, best known for his roles in the films The Usual Suspects and Snatch, is being considered for a role in the upcoming reboot of the Predator franchise, according to Deadline. The reboot of the Predator franchise is being produced at 20th Century Fox. This reboot will likely be directed by Shane Black, who also directed The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3. Fun fact: Shane Black was actually a cast member in the original Predator film; his character was the first to die at the hands of the titular murderous monster. It will be interesting to see the perspective one of the original actors can bring to the direction of a reboot.
The Predator Franchise
The original Predator film was first shown in theaters in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers. The film followed the military extraction team led by Major Alan “Dutch” Schafer as they were stalked by an alien creature (the titular “predator,” who was voiced by an uncredited Peter Cullen) after they had been setup by a phony CIA mission in an effort to discover secret intellgence. The film took place in the fictional country of Val Verde. Predator was written by both Jim Thomas and John Thomas, and was directed by John McTiernan. The original Predator film led to two other films in the same franchise, which were Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010). The Predator franchise also had two crossover films with the popular Alien franchise: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens v. Predator: Requiem (2007).
