Aspiring comic book artists, colorists, and letterers of the world rejoice! You no longer have to wait on huge lines or crowd around booths at conventions to get the chance to have your work viewed. On August 21st Boom! Studios launched its Facebook page dedicated to receiving artwork submissions.
The procedure is simple:
2) Post samples of your work onto the page’s timeline only (they will not be responding to submissions made via message).
3) Be sure to provide your personal contact information.
4) Be patient, there will be a lot of submissions to look through and it will take sometime to give each the thorough look you would hope for yours.
That is all you have to do. Also be sure to check back with the page every once and a while just to see what helpful hints the folks at Boom! have posted.
This is an incredibly unique opportunity for artists, colorists, and letterers a like. It is not often that a publisher provides such an outlet to its fans and the artist community. They do ask however, that no writing submissions be posted as this page is focused only on the visual art side of comic book creating.
According to Boom! Studios Managing Editor Bryce Carlson, the page is not just about finding a job but creating a community. He describes the page as “a great community for creators to interact and learn from each other,” and goes on to say that, “Finding new talent is awesome, but providing a home for people to grow and learn together is what really makes this so special.”
It is my sincere hope that this page is a success and that many aspiring artist can get the break they have been looking for. Hopefully one day other publishers will see that social media can be used for more than self-promotion and we can continue to grow our community in meaningful ways.
