Netflix’s Bright Gets Green Light for Sequel

Bright’s Light Turns Green

According to recent news, the Netflix original film Bright will officially be given a sequel by the streaming service. However, only three out of the four core members of the original film’s team are returning to the scene.

Netflix Bright Movie - Will Smith and Joel EdgertonDespite a 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Bright has apparently been a successful project for Netflix. According to the streaming service, Bright earned a ranking of the top-watched Netflix film during the first week of releaseever. This includes Netflix sequels to other projects! In addition, Bright is the number one internationally-ranked film on Netflix. However, it’s important to note that Netflix originals aren’t always offered in other territories. Bright may have taken the top spot because it’s one of only a few Netflix films streaming internationally.

Three of the contributing voices of Bright have already been contracted to return for the upcoming sequel. Lead actors Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are returning, along with director David Ayer. Ayer is best known for directing the DCEU film Suicide Squad in 2016.

However, not all of the core people behind Bright will be returning for the upcoming sequel. Max Landis, who wrote the screenplay, will not be returning. Instead, David Ayer, who has some screenwriting experience, will write the Bright sequel. Max Landis, who just finished executive producing Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, has recently become controversial. There have been a number of allegations of sexual assault against him on social media, including Twitter. It would not be surprising to learn that this controversy is part of the reason that Netflix chose not to ask Landis back for the sequel.

If you haven’t seen Bright yet, you can watch it on Netflix, no matter what country you’re in! Though its low rating may deter you, there has to be a reason it’s getting a sequel—right?

Did you watch Bright on Netflix? What do you think about the fact it’s getting a sequel? Tell us in the comments!
