A Vinyl Release for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical is Heading Our Way

Once More, With Feeling,” the famous Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode, is officially going to be getting its own vinyl release.

The musical number of Buffy is the seventh episode in the sixth season. So it’s not exactly like they rushed to hit this point, and it shows. It’s the only episode in the series that is entirely made of musical numbers. So it’s safe to say that it stands out a bit.

Joss Whedon did both the writing and directing for the episode, including most of the songs they performed. Christophe Beck wrote all of the songs that Joss Whedon didn’t.

Believe it or not, all of the actors in the series did provide the voices to their characters’ singing, though two of the characters had minimal lines because they weren’t confident in their abilities. Any guesses which characters they portrayed?

The Plot

“Once More, With Feeling” was a major turning point for character development and emotions in the series. Throughout the course of the episode, characters reveal deep secrets to each other through song. And yes, they are aware of what the others are singing and saying.

The cause of all of the singing turns out to be none other than Sweet, a tap-dancing demon with a specialty for rhythm.

The Vinyl

Mondo announced that they’ll be releasing the soundtrack on vinyl on March 20th, 2019. Their edition will also include original art from Paul Mann, liner notes by Joss Whedon, and probably a few other surprises as well. This will be an item for Buffy fans and vinyl collectors alike. Not many shows get to boast about a soundtrack of theirs hitting this point, so the cast and creators should be proud of themselves.

In total there are twenty-three songs from the episode, and one can assume that they’ll all be making it onto the vinyl. After all—if you had a say, would you opt to drop any of these songs from the list? We didn’t think so.
