The Composer for Captain Marvel is Breaking as Many Glass Ceilings as the Hero She’s Supporting
Pinar Toprak may not be a name you’ve heard of, at least if you haven’t been paying attention to the music credits in some of your favorite games, TV shows, and movies. Despite that, she’s been doing what she loves for years, and she’s getting recognition for it.
Diversity in Composition
Like many forms of media, the composing world is adapting and adjusting to the call from many for more diversity in the field. The wonderful thing about this is that allows for new voices to be heard, new styles to be tried, and so much more.
Toprak is a Turkish composer, and she’s fond of using a variety of styles in her compositions. That’s likely the reason you’ll find her work across a wide array of media. She has studied classical music, jazz, joined Remote Control Productions (at the time it was known as Boston es team). She uses all of these different experiences and styles to expand her reach.
The part that will shock many would be the different projects she’s worked on. She’s currently composing for the TV show Krypton, which is her first big break into the field. She’s also worked on both Ninety-Nine Nights and Fortnite. Yes, you read that correctly. Her movie list is significantly longer, with the most recent project being none other than Captain Marvel. It seems oddly appropriate, all things considered.
Captain Marvel is due out in March of 2019 and will be the first Marvel movie with a female lead. It’s already becoming widely talked about, and many fans are looking forward to it. That may be partially due to Captain Marvel’s anticipated involvement in the second half of Infinity War, but it is also likely due to her fanbase.
The film is starring Brie Larson, but will also have McKenna Grace, Gemma Chan, Samuel L. Jackson, and Lee Pace as well. It is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. However, Pinar Toprak is the only composer listed—an impressive feat.
