Over the last few days there has been much ado about new actors joining next year’s The Wolverine. The biggest and most recent of these announcements, broken by Deadline.com, is that Jessica Biel has officially been cast as Viper (aka Madame Hydra). Viper has a storied history with the Avengers and X-Men, once even going so far as to blackmail Wolverine into marrying her. Could we see that story play out in The Wolverine?
The second most major announcement, coming from Hollywood Reporter, is that Will Yun Lee is set to Silver Samurai. Silver Samurai (real name, Kenuichio Harada) first appeared as a villain in Daredevil #111 but has gone on to become one of Logan’s oldest and most classic foes. Also of note, Harada and Viper have teamed up on multiple occasions and that is certainly a possibility to create some serious antagonists for Hugh Jackman.
Clearly, the sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be adapting the iconic stories of the X-Man’s journeys in Japan, most notably created by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont and will definitely feature some serious martial arts action.
20th Century Fox’s The Wolverine is being directed by James Mangold and is set to be released on 26th July 2013.
While the casting of Jessica Biel had apparently been confirmed, it is now being reported, by collider.com, that talks between 20th Century Fox and Miss Biel have, unfortunately, broken down. Sources suggest that the studio are now in talks with other suitable actresses,
