Chris Evans Bids A Heartbreaking Farewell

Chris Evans Tweets His Emotional Goodbye To Captain America

“It’s Time For Me To Tap Out”

It could truthfully be called an end of an era. Chris Evans confirmed the wrapping of filming Avengers 4. Ordinarily, this wouldn’t signify anything of much concern. But this is quite possibly the last time Evans will suit up as Captain America.

The actor’s contract with the studio is up and it is unlikely he will sign on for further Marvel films. Evans has commented on this before, so it really isn’t surprising. The big difference is talking about it versus actually acting on it.

Yesterday the 37-year-old actor posted on Twitter a heartbreaking yet vague “goodbye” to the Marvel Universe. He stated it has been “an honor” and “eternally grateful.” Many fans choked back tears as they surmised that he was leaving Captain America behind him.

Evans was no newcomer to the comic book film genre when he suited up as the star-spangled Avenger. He played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in two Fantastic Four films. His other comic book roles include The Losers, SnowpiecerScott Pilgrim Vs. The World and TMNT.

His departure leaves a huge hole not only in the hearts of fans but also in the power structure of the Avengers. Captain America is the emotional leader of the team whose absence will be sorely missed. Fellow Avengers actors Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth are, too, coming closer to taking their final bow. Marvel Studios is clearly looking to fill the void by introducing new heroes that will take up the mantle.

Evans has played Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, for nearly a decade and has appeared in 16 of the 20 Marvel films so far. It seems like only yesterday when he was that baby-faced kid from Brooklyn. So, all good things must come to an end and whoever replaces Cap has some pretty big shoes to fill.

The two frontrunners to take Cap’s place are Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier/White Wolf, and Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. The two have both taken over as Captain America in the comic books before. However, it’s likely that in this rage-fueled culture that fans would accept nothing less.
