Chris Hemsworth Will Remain in Role of Thor
Fans of Marvel’s resident God of Thunder are going to be happy to know that Chris Hemsworth, the MCU actor who brought the Norse deity to life for the big screen, has no interest in hanging up the hammers yet.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Hemsworth sat down with Polish magazine Elle Man to talk about Thor: Love and Thunder and the future of the caped hero. “I’m not going into any retirement, Thor is far too young for that. He’s only 1,500 years old!”
The coming feature was unveiled to fans at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 to rapturous responses. Director Taika Waititi surprised fans by revealing the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Thor’s ex-girlfriend and new wielder of Mjolnir.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be loosely based on a run in the comics, written by Jason Aaron, during which Jane Foster takes on the mantle of Thor, once he becomes unworthy to raise the hammer.
Hemsworth mused about how much fun he had on set, noting it was more fun than when they filmed Thor: Ragnarok. “After reading the script, I can say that I am very excited. In this production, there will for sure be a lot of love, and a lot of thunder, I’m still part of the Marvel Universe and we can continue the story of Thor.”
The feature additionally sees the return of Tessa Thompson as the mythical being Valkyrie. It also stars Christian Bale in a mysterious role. Waititi, additionally, reprises his role as fan-favorite Korg. “There will come a day,” Chris continues, “whether it’s now or in the future, I don’t know…Who knows what the sort of future holds. I don’t know, there could be remakes, sequels, prequels—who knows?”
Production on the upcoming feature had been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the film is set to be released on Feb. 11, 2022.
