This issue picks up after issue #63 with the Purple Dragons being led by Casey Jones now helping the Turtles and the foot clan fight off the street phantoms. The turtles are quite surprised to see Casey leading the purple dragons and find that it was another secret that their father Splinter was keeping from them. They do not have much time to discuss this new revelation as Harold is still trapped in Mr. Dun’s building. The brothers and the foot clan eventually find Harold but things are not okay. By the end of the issue, the Turtles and their family will never be the same again.

The ongoing story of IDW’s TMNT comic continues to build and go into new directions. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #64 really pushes the turtles in new directions and makes some really drastic changes to the dynamics of the story and plot. The writing crew continues to do a fantastic job of building upon the continuity of this book.

tmnt-64The Art for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #64

Dave Wachter is again the artist on this issue, though the art does feel a little different than the previous issues of this arc that he was on. The action is not as dynamic and the characters feel a little off. Not to say it is bad art, it is still good, but just does not feel as tight as the previous issues. Ronda Pattison still kills it on colors, nothing new there.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #64 is really a game changing issue for TMNT family. This book has to be talked about as one of the best ongoing series in comics right now. IDW’s TMNT ongoing comic continues to build upon it’s continuity with each issue, once things happen they are not forgotten about and continue to affect the stories and characters as the series progresses. Many ongoing comics will boast about “it all changes here!” or “nothing will be the same again” to only have the book go back to “status quo” after a few issues down the road. Well TMNT does not do that and the changes are for good. The team has continued this ongoing narrative for 64 issues and have continued to make the turtles family grow and change. IDW ongoing TMNT series is an actual comic that when things happen that they actually have ramifications and affect the characters for the long term. This has been a great arc for the characters growth and changes of the characters, this will really affect the dynamic of the book going on. I am very excited to see what happens next and where we go from here!
