To all our readers:
As the clock ticks down on 2016, I like to ask for your help with Word of the Nerd. As we begin 2017, Word of the Nerd will be changing over to a non-profit status. That means the number of advertisements you currently see on the website will soon dwindle away. This will make the website completely funded by our fans. The reason I have chosen to switch to this new business model has a number of reasons. First, it will allow Word of the Nerd to remain independent and also maintain a level of integrity in our reporting. Being a source that our fans and readers can trust has always been important to me. By becoming a non-profit, it makes it easier for the organization to show that. To protect our independence, we’ll eliminate ads. Not having ads will also protect visitors to the website from malicious and intrusive code.
Secondly, it will allow us to more easily align with and make charitable contributions. A percentage of your donations goes directly to charities each month. A different charity will be featured each month so that we can ensure your contributions go to help as many deserving organizations as possible. As our contributions grow, we will also be able to pay our writers and staff as well as reinvest back into the website itself.
Now is the time we ask. If everyone reading this right now gave $3, we would be able to sustain the website for another year and more. The price of a cup of coffee is all we need. It’s easy to ignore this message; most people do. But I hope you’ll think about how much you enjoy Word of the Nerd. We’re here to give you reliable and entertaining content in a world where fake news, rumors and click bait spreads too easily.
There are two ways you can contribute. The first is by giving a sustaining monthly pledge via our Patreon site, where the level of your contribution grants you access to Patreon only content as well as exclusive rewards. Alternately, you can make a one-time donation using PayPal, credit card or debit card. Please help keep Word of the Nerd online and growing. Thank you!
