Cosplay of the Week

This week’s cosplay is from a talented and beautiful young woman named Tia.  She is a cosplayer turned model but has never turned her back on her passion for cosplay.

I’m a 22 year old alternative model.  I started cosplay when I was 19 but never believed I could model professionally until the past year or so. With the help of friends, family and fans I’ve been encouraged and excited to travel, learn more about crafting and model more often!

I’ve been featured, as a model, in a Bodyscape exhibition in Australia and was sponsored by the creators of the website, to be their model representative for 2012-2013. I’ve been involved in 3 short films as an extra and special effects artist! I hope to become more well known around the U.S. for my talents in modeling to have it be my full time profession.

My main goal is to become a famous cosplayer/spokes model for Comic Conventions across the world and to follow in the footsteps of Kassandra Leigh, Yaya Han, Toni Darling, Ivy Doomkitty and Jessica Nigri!

How did you first get into cosplay?  I was invited to my 1st comic con in 09 ( Phoenix Comic Con) and knew that people dressed up in costumes but at that time I didn’t realize how seriously they took it! I just put together a cute Lolita costume last min and people seemed to like it! As the next year rolled around I wanted to make some adjustments and mods to the costume and so it started as a “what can I do different with the same basic outfit” Or “what can I afford to be this year?”

How much time do you spend making your costumes?  I tend to procrastinate so I happen to take a couple days before a con unless I’m seriously inspired to do a cosplay earlier due to its complexity.

What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?  My favorite cosplay so far is between Harley Quinn from Arkham Asylum and my Steamgirl. They both show off a bit of sex appeal while still being kick ass! And I think that’s what’s making cosplay so popular these days. As they say… Sex sells!

Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?  So far I haven’t gotten anything negative from fans but its probably better that way. I’m actually very hard on myself when it comes to costumes, hair styling and makeup. I stress out something hard core!

What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?  I’m getting ready to go to New York in October for the first time to attend NYCC and I’m hoping that I get my Maleficent cosplay done in time.

What characters inspire you the most?  I have a million characters that inspire me and I can never pick just 1. Snow White has been my favorite since childhood and Chii from Chobits as my favorite anime character… I grew up having major crushes on Wolverine, Tony Stark, Darth Maul, Poison Ivy and Phoenix if that says anything.
