Eugenia Mashina (niamash), 24, Russia.
How did you first get into cosplay?
I went to an anime con to the adjacent city and fell in love with all the costumes I saw. The urge to create my own costume grew stronger, so here I am.
How much time do you spend making your costumes?
Several months, usually. Also, I have numerous projects at the same time.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?
Gamora and Anna Henrietta.
Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?
I do, but mostly from foreign people. Russian fandom is quite demanding, they usually leave negative reactions (for no reason).
What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?
I’m working on Widowmaker from Overwatch (not the standard skin).
What characters inspire you the most?
What is your primary area of inspiration for your cosplay? Comics, anime, games or other?
Games, I guess. Also, I love movies, but games prevail.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Usually, I order some crafting materials from Saint-Petersburg, as for the fabric – I buy it at my hometown. I work with EVA-foam, bubblestar, and PVC.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give new cosplayers?
Don’t be afraid of the negative reactions, they will help you to become better and develop continuously.
What’s your golden rule of cosplay?
If you really love the character – don’t listen to anyone, just do it. And don’t try to save money on cosplay – truly amazing costume requires all the best: lace front wig, good fabric, quality sewing.
What does your budget run per costume?
It depends on the costume but on the average ~ $350.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
If money and time were not issues, what’s your number one over ambitious cosplay?
Wow, never thought of it. I really can’t answer this question cause I have created all the planned costumes so far.
Why do you cosplay?
I really love to feel like I am part of some fantasy world like I’m a different person: a warrior, or a duchess, for instance, it is fun and helps me to develop acting skills. Moreover, the process of creating costumes is inspiring, when you try to reproduce all the details.
