About Alexy Cosplay
Hello, my name is Alexy Cosplay, I’m a Fashion designer, from Brazil. I’ve been costume-designing and crafting since I was a kid. I love cosplay, and absolutely adore the friends I’ve made from this fantastic community!
How did you first get into cosplay?
I’ve always been a big fan of anime, so I went to my first convention and I fell in love with incredible costumes I saw there! I felt like I had to be a part of it!
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
Currently, cosplay is my second job, I make some projects to order but I would love to turn cosplay into a real (and only) career.
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I always make every detail of my cosplays. For me, do it yourself and learn new things is the essence of cosplay.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
I usually work on my projects only on weekends so each one takes about 1 month to get done.
What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far?
I LOVE my Ciel Phantomhive cosplay! It’s one of my favorites characters so I loved doing it.
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
My most memorable experience was to open my own thematic room at a convention to show my work and personally meet some lovely people who support me online!
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I just love it and do it all the time! The biggest group I participated in was from the anime Danganronpa with 7 people. it was very funny!
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
I’m working on 2 projects right now, a character from Boku no hero academia and another one from League of legends… I will not tell who they are yet, it’s a surprise!
What issues do you see as being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
The most divisive point is the lack of respect and acceptance of differences. Cosplay community is a way for people to have fun and be themselves, so we have to accept all differences.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
I always feel inspired by the personality of the characters. For some reason, I always get inspired by the craziest characters like Enoshima Junko, Jinx, Bacterial contamination – Vocaloid…
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
I just love photoshoots! One of the best parts is to interpret the characters and make great photos
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
I always buy the materials in person to make sure I’m buying what I really want This is very important to me because buying things online can bring some problems
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
I had to learn many things and the most difficult of them was to sew. I’ve studied for years and I still have a lot to learn.
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
I learned not to care about the differences or appearances and to focus only on the fun because that is what motivates us to create and keep making cosplay
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
If you have any doubts, always follow the original character, sometimes we can create and do incredible things but the resemblance to the original is what impresses most!
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
Good thing is that people are getting more creative and talented, but they are also judging themselves more and more 🙁
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
I would love to cosplay Nami Koi from League of legends! It’s a very expensive and hard cosplay but I’ll do it someday
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
I usually buy some things little by little and start building. And as I make everything the price never gets too high
What does cosplay mean to you?
Cosplay is living a magic moment. It’s like bringing your favorite characters to life and having fun!
How do you see the cosplay community 10 years from now?
I think people are getting more and more talented and the access to information is getting easier then in ten years the cosplay community will be even more competitive and creative!
What is your favorite con to attend?
Comiccon is always amazing! It’s huge and you can find all kinds of things. But here in Brazil “Anime Friends” is an amazing con as well.
Is there another cosplayer who inspires you or is your role model?
Reika Arikawa is my biggest inspiration! She does amazing things and works on every detail of the cosplay perfectly!
Do you consider yourself an inspiration to other cosplayers?
I do not know if I’m an inspiration to someone but would be happy to help more people get into this incredibly universe!
What advice would you give someone about meeting cosplayers and taking their pictures? How do you like to be approached?
Be polite and never invasive, I always respect cosplayer space!
What is one thing you wish your fans knew about you?
I am available for new experiences! Do not be afraid to call me to be part of a group or a photo shoot, I’ll love making new friends.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
Yes, lack of time is really a big problem. But if I didn’t have friends to have fun with, none of this would be worth it.
