About Arisu Cosplay
My name is Veronika (nickname: Arisu) and I live in The Czech Republic. I´m 25 but I look younger. I study animation at University of Tomas Bata in Zlín.
How did you first get into cosplay?
It was at my first festival (Animefest 2007) where I saw people in costumes and I wanted to make something similar.
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
I cosplay for fun and I think I keep it more as a hobby.
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I prefer making costumes from scratch but I buy some stuff like a wig or lenses etc.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
It´s hard to say. It´s very individual.
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
My favourite cosplay is Coco Bandicoot from Crash Bandicoot
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
When I found out that is more important make an easy looking costume more compact than huge and unfinished in details for example.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I think it´s great. I know some good cosplay groups personally and they are great. But personally, I don´t have very rich experience in group cosplay.
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
Jessie the cowgirl from Toy Story 2, Red from cartoon Red Hot Riding Hood and Chocola from Nekopara
What issues do you see as being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
I think it´s jealousy and arrogance and it´s a pity.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
Small, cute and active characters and animals. I´m not directed only to one genre. Depends on the character.
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
There are more- sewing, photo shooting and attending cons 🙂
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Internet and friends.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Making props from different materials than fabric.
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
I´ve become more self-confident and talkative with other people
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Do what you like but with discernment.
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
Everything is faster I think, for example when I start cosplay I didn´t know that they are some wigs and lenses and now also cosplay beginners know where to find and use them.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
It´s hard to say but I´d like to make something with puppet or some big nice dress (like a princess 😀 )
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
Mostly yes because I want to know how much it will cost (roughly)
What does cosplay mean to you?
It means that I can be anybody I like.
How do you see the cosplay community 10 years from now?
Lack of time and money.
What is your favorite con to attend?
Animefest (Czech Republic)
Is there another cosplayer who inspires you or is your role model?
Do you consider yourself an inspiration to other cosplayers?
I hope so.
What advice would you give someone about meeting cosplayers and taking their pictures? How do you like to be approached?
It´s good to be polite and ask for taking pictures (in 99% cosplayers are pleased when somebody wants their picture and don´t say no). Don´t taking the picture if cosplayers are eating and please wait until cosplayer prepare yourself for photo shooting.
What is one thing you wish your fans knew about you?
I´m really pleased when my work makes people happy and I don´t bite 😀
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
Lack of time and money.
