About Barbaraa Cosplay
Hey, My names Barbara from The Barbaraa Cosplay ( very original) I’ve been cosplaying since 2012. I work full time as a support worker which is a very rewarding job, I’m 25 years old. My first Con was MCM London in May ever since that day i’ve been attending cons every year and have made loads of new friends from this hobby. I mainly cosplay Harely Quinn I have multiple versions of her.
How did you first get into cosplay?
I’ve always loved gaming and reading but never really knew what Cosplay was until 2012 where I attended my first comic con I was taken back by all these incredible costumes, So when October came around I cosplayed for the first time it was meant to be a one off but now I attend cons every year and cosplay for the full weekend.
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
I’m not ashamed to say I buy my costumes, But I do tailor and adjust them to my body shape. I’d love to make my own costumes but currently, I just don’t have that much spear time.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
As I said above I don’t make my costumes but when I do tailor it takes about 3 weeks this is due to work commitments.
What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?
My Ame Comi Harley Quinn she’s not 100% finished but I do love her as over here not many cosplay her yet so it’s nice to stand out.
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
Like most cosplayers my list is never ending but currently I’m working on Bray Wyatt ( wwe) Becky Lynch (wwe) Harley Quinn( multiple new versions) and many more.
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
Attending con cause you get to see all your friends and make new ones it’s also a chance to network finding new cosplayers to follow and make projects with, I also love the photoshoots.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Local craft stores
and many other places
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
That not everyone is going to like my cosplays and will make remarks about my height and body, It was hard at first but know I feel so confident I don’t allow comments get me down
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
Never give up and don’t listen to anyone who puts you down.
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
My golden rule will sound mega boring but just have fun if you’re not having fun then ask yourself why? cosplay is all about fun so remember that when you are stressing over sewing etc imagine all the fun you will have at the convention
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?
I don’t know I think I’dd just give the money I to charity
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
Yes I have note pads everywhere and they all have cosplays, items and cheap items and expensive items I love comparing the prices together
What does cosplay mean to you?
To me cosplay is an escape from my very day life, I work full time as a support worker so being able to be someone else for a weekend is incredible and relives a lot of stress not only that but cosplay has made me the person I am now.
