About Hailey S Cosplay

Hello, I’m Hailey S Cosplay. I’ve been Cosplaying since 2013 and modeling pretty much my whole life. I really love making genderbends and gijinkas. I love animals and am just a shy awkward potato that likes to be goofy and have fun.

How did you first get into cosplay?

I’ve been modeling for a long time and was brought to Baltimore comic con a few years ago for a job. I’ve always loved Halloween and making costumes so when I found out about Cosplay and the conventions I immediately fell in love with it.

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

A bit of both. I love making the Cosplays and wearing them at cons and Cosplaying with friends. I’ve been doing promotional modeling even before this so why not apply that to this. I love it so much that I don’t even consider it work, to be honest though

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

Depends on the Cosplay. My sith is a Frankenstein of some old Cosplays and stuff from Amazon, but others like my Gyarados are completely made by me. It’s all fun no matter what you do

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

Also depends on the Cosplay. Some take weeks to make, but others I’ve made the week before the con. I’m a giant procrastinator

What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far?

Ciri for sure.

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

I’ve had too many to count. I always feel amazing when people come up to me and tell me they follow my work or that I’ve inspired them in some way.

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I like them a lot. Just not too big of a group.

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I’ve got a pretty good lineup this year. I’m not making as many Cosplays as I’m trying to take my time and improve myself. I really want quality over quantity for myself

What issues do you see as being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

There are so many divisive subjects in the Cosplay community I don’t know where to even start. I say just use common sense and treat others how you want to be treated and just have fun.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

I do a lot of video game Cosplays.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Photo shoots for sure.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Amazon and Joann fabrics

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

Talking to people. I’m a very shy awkward potato in person.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Believe in myself more and don’t let people bring you down.

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

HAVE FUN NO MATTER WHAT

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

It’s become more mainstream and that does attract a lot of fame seekers and toxic people. Just let them do their thing and don’t let them bring a bad name to the community as a whole. There are still so many more wonderful and amazing people than the toxic ones

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

Probably the queen of blades from Starcraft. This answer changes so much But I’d love to be Kerrigan in a full prosthetic costume.

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

Yes and never adhere to it

What does cosplay mean to you?

A chance for me to get out there and meet new people and make new and wonderful friends.

How do you see the cosplay community 10 years from now?

It will have completely taken over the world.

What is your favorite con to attend?

Colossalcon

Is there another cosplayer who inspires you or is your role model?

Kinpatsu Cosplay, Byndo Gehk, Jessica Nigri, and Danica Rockwood

Do you consider yourself an inspiration to other cosplayers?

I’ve been told I am before. I do enjoy helping people with posing tips and at cons, I always help friends out with posing during shoots

What advice would you give someone about meeting cosplayers and taking their pictures? How do you like to be approached?

Just ask politely. Don’t try to sneak a picture or be rude. Just ask. We all love having our Cosplays photographed.

What is one thing you wish your fans knew about you?

I’m not sure. I’m pretty open.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

The world ending
