About Kaguesna Cosplay

My name is Flavie, but I prefer to be called Kaguesna or Kagu for short. Occupation: Video game artist! Location: Canada Age: 21

Kaguesna Cosplay
My big build of End 2016/2017. It’s Sylvanas Windrunner, with her Master Skin from Heroes of the Storm. I added A LOT of my own imagination for the details, and it’s still the cosplay that I’m the proudest of right now!

How did you first get into cosplay?

When I went to an anime convention in my city, it was love at first sight, I needed to do a cosplay as well!

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

I would really love to make a career in cosplay, but for now, it’s mostly for fun since I am not really popular!

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I make my cosplays from scratch! For me, this is the best way to feel rewarded for my work. My friends can lend me their cosplays when I need more content on my socials, haha! But it feels really different than wearing something you made on your own!

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

It really depends on what I’m crafting. For armors, it can take months. For sewing projects, a few weeks.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

My Sylvanas Windrunner, Master Skin version. It was/is such a rewarding cosplay to look at, whenever I see it in pictures or just exposed in my craft room. 🙂

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

When I got invited as an artist for a Cosplay convention in my city, and I won prizes such as; Best Cosplay, Best Armor and Best presentation on stage. 🙂

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I never did one, but I would be interested!

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I am working on a secret cosplay project!

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

I think the issue is that now people feel forced to “sexualized” every character, just in order to be famous or make money out of it… It’s totally right if you like to do it, but it makes the job super hard for the crafty cosplayers that try to have the spotlight as well…!

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

Characters with big armors, props, and lights!

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

Painting all the armor, and building it of course!

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

The Internet is your best friend!

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

I’d say the free hate you get on the Internet? It’s so easy for them to point out a little “flaw” you have and make fun of you just for that.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Don’t care what negative people have to say, just do what you love and enjoy the time you are cosplaying with your friends and loved ones. Be proud of every project you make!

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

Have fun and don’t be afraid to try new things by yourself!

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

I am not so sure if I can answer this question since I am in the cosplay community since 2017. (Even if I cosplay since 2013)

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I don’t know yet haha, too many cosplans for the future!

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

No, I just buy whatever I need to finish the cosplay. (Yes, that’s why I am poor as well, haha)

What does cosplay mean to you?

It means the expression of yourself. It really helps to express yourself by using a character you look up to! And hard work if you craft everything of course.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

I don’t think so!
