About Oscuro Lupo Cosplay

I go by Amber, I’m currently employed part time while I go to college. I’m trying to major in Paleontology, though I’ve also been interested in animal sciences. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and love animals!

How did you first get into cosplay?

I first got into cosplay when I was 16. I saw the first trailer for Operation Raccoon City and wanted to create the mask that Lupo wore. Eventually, that turned into the actual costume. I also had inspiration from all the lovely cosplayers on DeviantART.

How much time do you spend making your costumes?

I can spend anywhere from two days to three years on perfecting one of my costumes. Normally, though, it takes about a few days.

What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?

Honestly, I feel like I should say, Lupo, from Resident Evil, but I find it is a tie between my Selene cosplay from Underworld, and my Re L Mayer cosplay from Ergo Proxy.

Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?

Yes. My reactions are always positive. Sometimes I get criticism, but that is so rare it happens once every three months if that.

What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?

My next costume I’m making is Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid, and my next event will hopefully be a convention in Portland.

What characters inspire you the most?

Re L Mayer inspires me, but Harley Quinn has been a huge one as well. She seems really free spirited. I also find inspiration in how strong a character Lupo is. I kind of find inspiration from all characters I cosplay.

What is your primary area of inspiration for your cosplay?  Comics, anime, games or other?

My inspiration mainly comes from gaming characters, though I also get inspiration from Cosplay.

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

Ebay is a big one, as well as Amazon. Ebay is always my best bet.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give new cosplayers?

Take your time with your costumes and make sure they won’t fall apart during cons. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

What’s your golden rule of cosplay?

Have fun, and don’t listen to haters. I’ve been brought down a lot to the point of quitting but decided to not listen to them and it was the best thing I’d ever done.

What does your budget run per costume?

Lately, my budget has been tight, so I’ve been using what I have plus getting cheap materials from online sellers. It has actually been pretty stress relieving.

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

I would stop cosplaying once I found a different hobby. Cosplay is very expensive, though I’ve had a lot of fun with it, to where it would be hard to quit.

If money and time were not issues, what’s your number one over ambitious cosplay?

That would be a commissioned, game accurate Tomb Raider Legend.

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay as a form of art. I love creating photos, edits, and costumes of my favorite characters. It’s also super fun to be able to be recognized. An example of this is when I’m at a con, and someone yells my character’s name and wants a photo.
