About Peppered Up Cosplays
Hello! My name is Cheyenne aka Peppered Up Cosplays, I’m 24 living in California! My daytime job is real estate photography and then on my off-time I do cosplay, painting and Twitch game streaming. Cosplay is a very important part of my life and definitely sort of defines who I am I guess I could say? Haha it throws you into a whole world of new experiences that you’re bound to remember for a lifetime!
How did you first get into cosplay?
When I was little I always watched anime with my Dad & older sibling loving all the different characters we would see. Growing up my Dad & Grandma taught us how to sew & from then on I’ve been hooked
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
Both! Cosplay is extremely fun for me but I do hope to one day make a career out of it
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?
All of the above! It all depends on how much time I’ve given myself to work on a cosplay.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
Anywhere from 1-2 weeks to a month
What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far?
Right now I think it would be a tie between Demyx from Kingdom Hearts III and Persephone from the Lore Olympus comic
What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?
Honestly, it would have to be when you happen to be cosplaying as a child’s favorite character. At the moment when that kid sees you in the full get-up, they truly believe that you ARE that character. Making a kids day/dream come true of meeting their favorite character is one of the best things one can experience.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I absolutely love them! If I got the chance to participate in more of them I would leap at the opportunity
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
As of right now, I’m working on Tifa Lockhart from the Final Fantasy 7 remake
What issues do you see as being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
One of the main issues is probably how toxic and judgmental it can be sometimes? It’s happening a lot less nowadays but back in the day it used to be really bad. Cosplay is meant to be a safe place for everyone no matter who you are or what you like. Its a place where you can go around meeting people who love the same things you do and make friendships that can last a lifetime.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
All kinds! Most of my current cosplays are from anime but I’ve recently branched more into comics & games.
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photoshoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
The moment when you first put on the full cosplay you’ve been working on for a while(makeup, wig, props, etc.) and actually being able to breathe life into this thing you’ve worked so hard to create. Its that “Wow, I made this!” moment that just fills you with confidence to do anything.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Honestly, Dollar Tree. You’d be surprised how many things you can make from what they got there. And also, cardboard boxes!
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Always the trial & error of making things. Whether it be styling a wig, sewing, or making a new kind of prop its always a new step onto a learning curve that you need to overcome.
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
Never be afraid to ask for help. I am always asking for advice from my older sibling(also a cosplayer) and my other friends on how to do? Make certain things & getting other’s opinions & ideas rolling to help you out.
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
DO YOUR RESEARCH! I have made many mistakes in my time cosplaying by just going full-bore into a project without knowing enough of what I needed to and those mistakes eventually become unfix-able in the end.
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
I feel like it has changed for the better. More people are being accepted to this “Come as you are” community and I absolutely love it.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
Reinhardt from Overwatch, full-size, full armored cosplay.
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
Recently I’ve started to because cosplay can get very VERY expensive if you’re not careful
What does cosplay mean to you?
Cosplay to me is my biggest creative outlet. It lets me express and shows the world what interests me and what I love and care about. Cosplay gives me the confidence to always keep pushing myself to make bigger and better things as time goes on.
How do you see the cosplay community 10 years from now?
Flourishing! Cosplayers from everywhere around the world coming together and thriving!
What is your favorite con to attend?
Is there another cosplayer who inspires you or is your role model?
Rosey G Cosplay and Avantgeek
Do you consider yourself an inspiration to other cosplayers?
I would absolutely love to be! It would be amazing if I am!
What advice would you give someone about meeting cosplayers and taking their pictures? How do you like to be approached?
Honestly, just say Hi! I personally love being able to talk to people. If someone wanted to go so far as to want a picture I would be elated and honored, I love being able to meet new people and make new friends along the way!
What is one thing you wish your fans knew about you?
I love horror! I wish I could do more like gross & disgusting things cosplay wise because I love the WOW factor of like, little ol’ me being transformed into this horrifying creature!
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
If I died.
