About PIME Studio

I’m a Brazilian cosplayer, but to the outside world I’m a biomedical doctor with a masters degree in clinical pathology with emphasis on medical genetics. That’s why I appear to be a very serious person! ^^ I’m addicted to manga and love drawing (someday I’ll have my own manga). I have a ferret named Olivia.

How did you first get into cosplay?

I always liked anime and manga, but never have been to a con. When I came for the first time I thought I’d feel better if I wore a cosplay and I did!

Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?

I cosplay for fun and because it’s a very good hobby. I like creating and making stuff. I even learned how to sew because of it. But even it’s a hobby, I take it very seriously and I try to be better each time.

Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them or a hybrid?

I prefer tho whole process of watching a pile of fabrics, EVA and PVC pipes turning into something great! It’s hard work but it pays off. But sometimes I buy.

How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?

It depends on the cosplay. The simpler ones I usually take a week or two to make, but if you take Wonder Woman as an example, I took a whole month working like crazy.

What is your favorite cosplay you done so far?

Hmmm, I’d say I loved myself as Wonder Woman but my heart belongs to Two, from Drakengard 3.

What has been your most memorable experience (good or bad) as a cosplayer?

The most memorable experience was every moment I could spend with my partner. It’s good to have someone to share your craziness. But the experience I liked the most was the road trip with Prinz Eugen’s boat on the back seat of the car, traveling to a far city, just to participate in a cosplay show and try to win an Xbox One. It was raining so badly and the road was terrible too! But in the end, we won it and was a blast!

How do you feel about group cosplays?

I love cosplay groups! Really like to participate in it. Sadly, sometimes people don’t commit as much as we do.

What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?

I’m working on Felt (from Re: Zero), Chitoge (from Nisekoi), Tracer (from Overwatch) and Velvet Crowe (from Tales of Berseria).

What issues do you see being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?

I think the main problem is that some people don’t believe in others. They are distrustful and really don’t believe the other ones can really be nice people and just want to be friends. On the other hand, some of them are really egoistic.

What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?

The genre I like the most is shoujo by far! And the characters I like the most are Mahou shoujo and cute girls.

What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photo shoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?

I’d say it’s shopping for supplies and the whole process of making the cosplay itself! I really love to see all the hard work taking shape into something great!

What are your best resources for cosplay materials?

When we have to do a prop, normally we use cheap materials you can find near home. I never used worbla because it’s very expensive here. We use styrofoam, epoxy, EVA and PVC pipes! My Wonder Woman armor was made entirely using those materials.

What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?

It’s more an inner obstacle than anything else: I’m a shy and very serious person to the outside world, so let myself to be cheerful and girly and cute when I use a cosplay was my major obstacle.

Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?

Yes, I did: never postpone. But I keep doing it. 🙂

What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?

Pay attention to the details. They appear and do all the difference. And never stop practicing. One day you’ll be proud of where you are.

How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?

I’m seeing more and more Brazilian cosplayers making cosplay as their job. This for sure is a huge change.

If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over ambitious cosplay you want to do?

I wanted to do a cosplay that appears to be flying! And someday I might do it!

Do you set a budget for each cosplay?

Never done that! But since I don’t use very expensive materials, my budget isn’t very high.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is a way of life. It’s a hobby that requires commitment and time. But it pays off (and you learn lots of new stuff every day!).

Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?

Maybe when I have children I stop for a little time, but afterward, I think I’ll bring them with me!
