About Pimpinski ピンピンスキー
Hi, I’m Karina. I have graduated in set design, and secretly am a full time wanderer and songwriter.
How did you first get into cosplay?
Friends, fun, and love for costume design got me into cosplay very soon! It was 2009 and we were still hanging around with cheap synthetic wigs and 6 Mpx digital cameras, could you picture that? Nothing could stop us.
How much time do you spend making your costumes?
That sure must be a lot! Being a very indecisive person means to ponder all the time which is the material/pattern/match that will bring the best result. For Alice, I spent about three years in material selection, personal issues, pauses, and actual construction… But it totally paid off! For my Sakura Hime hanbok, I only worked for 3 busy summer months. Sometimes I get brave and I take a few impulsive decisions in a row. I often realize it’s just a matter of confidence and willpower.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?
I like cosplays that are fun to shoot and to hang around with. Senjougahara and the flying stationery? Lei Fang and all the crazy poses I kept striking for a whole day making photographers go mad? Who can tell!
Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?
Both online and offline! -I still get some negative reactions from boring people who do not like dressing up-
What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?
Well, I still have few costumes in my closet that really need some shootings…
What characters inspire you the most?
I like to jump from crazy characters to more austere ones. Many opposite characters can equally inspire me and people often cannot recognize me from one costume to another! “How can Nana Osaki possibly be the princess I saw last few months?!” … well! I recently re-made Haruhara Haruko, which was one of my very first costumes and inspiration. She gives me the chance to experiment freedom of movement and expression because she’s totally out of control! Robbaseria (my all time cosplay friend) shoot all the pictures and some video clips I just recently edited.

What is your primary area of inspiration for your cosplay? Comics, anime, games or other?
I draw a lot of inspiration from anime, but I have a soft spot for doll costumes.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Local fabric stores and fabric stores all over the world! Every time I visit a new city, I try to make my way through them to find that specific kind of textile I’ve been searching for ages.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give new cosplayers?
Grab a costume, grab a friend and try! It’s gonna be fun and if you get into that, you never know how much cosplay can teach you!
What’s your golden rule of cosplay?
“If you can dream it, you can do it” It might sound kinda cheesy but it totally applies to cosplay! Let’s not give up, let’s make that dream costume happen ╚(•⌂•)╝
What does your budget run per costume?
It really depends. It can be 30$ but it can be 300$ (with Alice, being slow allowed me to distribute the cost in a three-year span)
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
I guess being generally busy must be a very common issue, but I’m sure some costume is gonna pop up anyway from time to time!
If money and time were not issues, what’s your number one over ambitious cosplay?
I would start working latex like TODAY. My biggest dream is a plugsuit from NGE.
Why do you cosplay?
Perfecting my skills in costume making, self-improvement, not to mention meeting new amazing people all over the world… You can never feel alone when you are cosplaying!
