Name: Sophie Letyago / LilSophie Country: Russia, Moscow Occupation: Ecologist
How did you first get into cosplay?
One of my favorite photographers posted an announcement on her post in social net, where she was looking for a model of special appearance. And I thought – yes, that`s my chance, because I looked like something she needed. And I wrote her a message, and she noticed me. That was a big surprise. That was my first cosplay of Mirana from Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. It was not a cosplay from the beginning, but I send these photos to some cosplay publics and got lots of positive feedbacks. From that moment I can`t stop
How much time do you spend making your costumes?
It depends. Some for two days, some for two months.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?
My favourite is Elizabeth from Bioshock, but I am more famous for my Elsa cosplay)
Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?
Yes! And I am so thankful to them, support is really important to me. Even if I have said that “you shouldn’t listen to haters” above – I listen to haters and my heart bleeds 😀 I want everything to be so perfect that no one can say anything bad. But it is impossible and I understand it.
What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?
I have been working on Star Wars cosplay for several months already and now three costumes are ready. Need to photo shoot them)
What characters inspire you the most?
Several of them. I love noir and 20s-50s, so Elizabeth is in my heart. And I am going mad of Padme Amidala, because I love Star Wars and Natalie Portman, and when you put them together… I am dead.
What is your primary area of inspiration for your cosplay? Comics, anime, games or other?
Games and some movies. I am not a huge fan or anime and manga.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
Eva and fabric of different types (did I understood the question right?)
What’s one piece of advice you’d give new cosplayers?
As I have already said, cosplay the characters you love and don’t listen to haters, just do your best.
What’s your golden rule of cosplay?
There are several rules: 1. cosplay the character you like, only this way you will be satisfied with the result. 2. everything has to be of high quality, from the wig to the boots (and I am not talking about expensive things). 3. Do not listen to haters, the only thing you should think about – can I tell myself that my cosplay is really good.
What does your budget run per costume?
It is like 5-10 thousand rubles. In dollars it was 150-300 a year ago, now its 80-160. Because dollar has become more expensive in Russia.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
For now I can’t tell, because I have lots of plans and will not stop cosplaying in the nearest future. But if I have no money – I have no fabric – I have no cosplay 😀
If money and time were no issue, what’s your number one over ambitious cosplay?
It is Padme Amidala Senator costume from Star Wars. To tell the truth, I have a dream to make ALL of her costumes, and maybe one day…
Why do you cosplay?
When I was a teenager, I used to play in a theatre. Then I had to left it, but passion to play different characters didnt disappear. That`s why I started to dress like favourite characters and feel happy on stage at a con.
