Bleeding Cool has reported that DC Comics will relaunch its entire line of comics this summer, a year after the similar relaunch after Convergence. This new DC Comics relaunch will occur after several titles release their 52nd issue, and will likely be more along the lines of what Marvel has been doing with their recent relaunch of all their titles after the Secret Wars event. Whether this will be more like that or more like the New 52 initiative back in 2011 is yet to be seen.
Would this be a good thing for DC Comics? It certainly would be new reader friendly, and not make them so intimidated and feel as if they’re dropping into the middle of the story without context or a clue about what is going on. It could clear up some continuity snarls and make things easier for both new and old readers. I seriously doubt it will be a reboot in the way the New 52 was; DC Comics has already invested far too much time into that imitative to throw it out entirely. New first issues also wouldn’t hurt DC’s pockets, as they have been beaten in market share by Marvel’s constant relaunches. However, the rumored focus on characters who already have cinematic or television counterparts is troubling; especially since they are supposedly planning on focusing on characters who already have quite a large number of titles. If you are an Aquaman or Green Lantern fan, you might be out of luck should that come true.
There is no official statement yet, but Publisher Dan Didio has a photo up on his social media accounts with only one word: Rebirth.
