DC Universe to Premiere in August
DC’s streaming service, DC Universe, is highly anticipated by fans. It already has a wealth of content that fans are eagerly awaiting. These include the Titans, Doom Patrol, and Swamp Thing series. It also includes the fan-requested third season of Young Justice. However, fans have been uncertain about when the streaming service would launch. Now, we might have that answer.
“We are about to launch, I think, late August, our DC digital platform, which will be a hub for all things DC. Right now, we’re working on getting everything from the back catalog of animated TV shows and movies on there now, but we will also be producing. I think, right now, we have four in production, original shows, including Swamp Thing.”
Comics to Be on DC Universe as Well?
But that was not the only surprise from Snow on the podcast:
“There will be digital movies, TV shows that you can watch, streaming. We’re going to have a lot of comics on there. There’s going to be a lot of good stuff on there.”
Fans have been clamoring for such a platform for digital comics for years. Marvel, on the other hand, has been doing this for years with their Marvel Unlimited platform. If DC Universe will provide a similar service along with the shows, it would add more value. Currently, Marvel Unlimited provides comics up to six months prior. If DC Universe can improve upon this service, it would definitely increase access to comics for fans.
It also raises questions of what other programs will be on the service. One can hope that this will include a wide variety of DC’s extensive film and animation catalog.
We will likely find out more at San Diego Comic-Con this summer.
