DC’s Drowned Earth Crossover Details Released

This November, DC Comics brings us a crossover event between Aquaman and the Justice League with Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth. James Tynion IV will be at the helm of this event while working with Justice League writer Scott Snyder and artists Howard Porter, Francis Manapul, and Frazer Irving. The Aquaman team of Dan Abnett and Lan Medina will also be working with Tynion on this event.

In Drowned Earth, the Justice League will face off against a race of ancient sea gods. They will also face off against alien mercenaries while discovering shocking secrets about Arthur’s legacy. The League will have to thwart a plot to flood the planet and change people into aquatic monsters.

The Beginning of Drowned Earth

The story begins on October 31. It will be a 48-page one-shot that introduces Ocean Lords. The Ocean Lords will be the ancient, powerful deities with an ax to grind between Aquaman and Wonder Woman. The Ocean Lords plot to flood the world and the Justice League must stop it. While the Justice League is trying to prevent the Earth from flooding, Aquaman will face off against Black Manta. The battle will determine if Aquaman can keep his connection to the world’s oceans.

The story will continue in Justice League #11, which will come out on November 7. Justice League #11 will be written by Scott Snyder with art by Francis Manapul. Pursued by the Ocean Lords and their army, the Justice League is scattered across the seven seas. Crippled Aquaman believes he holds the key to victory but would have to release another revenge-driven god onto Earth and its oceans. Meanwhile, Batman has been guarding the Totality in a now-sunken Hall of Justice. He believes no one can attack him there, but it may not be true.
Drowned Earth crossover 3 (DC Comics)
(DC Comics)
Justice League #12 starts the third part of the saga on November 21 with Tynion writing and art by Frazer Irving. A bed-ridden Batman, in a full body cast, takes on the Legion of Doom—the Joker, Lex Luthor, Gorilla Grodd, and Sinestro. Aquaman will cross paths with Poseidon while Mera discovers an ancient secret. One that could change the fate of Atlantis, and maybe the planet.

Aquaman Tie-In

Also on November 21, Aquaman #42 will hit the stands with writer Dan Abnett and artist Lan Medina. It will be a tie-in where Aquaman and Wonder Woman discover the secret to defeating the Ocean Lords in the Graveyard of Gods. Arthur may believe that the League has been fighting the wrong foe after discovering a shocking Atlantean secret. Arthur must join forces with Mera and confront the Ocean Lords with his newfound knowledge. They must learn the truth before the Earth is flooded.

Drowned Earth’s Conclusion

The event reaches its conclusion on November 28 in the 48-page Aquaman/Justice League: Drowned Earth #1. Aquaman must find a way to reclaim his birthright. If not, the rising tides will drown and corrupt everything he holds dear. The Justice League is on the ropes and the fate of the world is at stake. Aquaman may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to restore balance to the land and seas.
