Declassified Image of Mothra Lands Online

The official Monarch sciences Twitter page tweeted a new image teasing Mothra. The image coincides with the Blu-ray release of Kong: Skull Island

Mothra Joins The Fray

The set-up to the Godzilla/King Kong shared universe is well underway. Kong: Skull Island teased the versus film in its post-credits scene. Godzilla 2’s original title was Godzilla: King of the Monsters. And now, Monarch is confirming sightings of other gigantic creatures across the globe.

It started on July 12th, 2017. The Kong: Skull Island Twitter account tweeted a video featuring a description of “Monster Zero.” The video contained a footnote reading “the devil has three heads.” Obviously, the devil, in this case, is King Ghidorah. Now, hot on the heels of the Blu-ray release of Kong, Monarch is teasing Mothra’s arrival on the Earth.

Of course, the post-credits scene featured in Kong: Skull Island teases these characters. But, the image shared from Monarch provides a more intricate look at the bug queen. In another one of the Monarch timeline reels, followers of the Godzilla ARG were told about the discovery of the Temple of the Moth in 2009. That video described a “quickening heartbeat” at the center of the temple. Take a look below at what that quickening heartbeat might belong to.

Analyzing Mothra’s New Look

Mothra’s enormous wings are immediately noticeable. They also feature elaborate designs. She’s classified as “Divine/Imago.” So, Mothra remains a goddess in the new Godzilla universe. Furthermore, two larvae are carved at her side and an egg sits above her. Of course, this is an ancient carving, so those larvae and egg are probably fully grown.

A small, but great, detail lies in Mothra’s file number. Her file number reads: 63061. An eagle-eyed Twitter user identified that number as the release date of Mothra, her first cinematic appearance. Mothra is synonymous with Godzilla, but I appreciate this nod to her true origins. The folks involved with this universe have respect for the rich history surrounding Godzilla and his rogue’s gallery. That goes a long way with fans.
