Disney+ Eyeing Animated “What If” Marvel Series

Animated “What If” Series Coming to Disney+

Disney+ is looking to bolster its streaming content today. Comicbook.com reports Marvel Studios is supposedly developing an animated series for the streaming serviced based on the “What If” comic series. Marvel seems to be going all in with its animated selections currently. It wasn’t but about a month ago they announced several animated series for Hulu.

What If…?

The What If …? storylines will offer a plethora of ideas for animated adventures. The comic line would ask the obvious question of What If? Then change something about a popular character or team to dramatic effect. Like, What if Daredevil became an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.? What if the Punishers Family had Never Been Killed? Or more recently What if Flash Thompson Became Spider-Man? It will be interesting the path the animated adventures take as some of the comics had some pretty dark endings.

I hope that maybe we get more animation to come. Here is a big What If question! This is pure speculation and dreaming. With the Disney acquisition of Fox could we see the 90’s X-Men cartoon on Disney+? Or the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon if it doesn’t fall under Sony? What about Disney’s other animated Marvel shows like Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes or Spectacular Spider-Man? Could they possibly put those up as well?

Waiting

Nothing is official yet about the animated What if series. From the reports, it seems like a sure thing. We will know for sure about it when Disney decides to start making some official announcements about its upcoming streaming service. It will also be interesting what Disney+ offers right off the bat? Is this What If series already started so that at the launch of Disney+ it will be ready? With what seems like every other company offering its own streaming service Disney is going to want to launch with some heavy hitting original and old content to potential subscribers. It will be very interesting to see what they have to offer at the beginning.
