Doctor Who’s Snazzy Scarf for New Year’s Special Revealed!
A new photo released by the official Doctor Who Twitter shows that even without the Christmas special, the New Year’s Special looks to give that holiday look. The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), who is rocking the scene with a snazzy scarf!
Since 2005, the world of Doctor Who has kept fans in a festive mood on Christmas Day. However, this all changes for this season’s Doctor Who. BBC has announced and revealed that they will be doing a New Year’s Special that will be replacing the Yuletide Christmas Special that has been far too familiar for Whovians for the last 13 years!
Early November solidified this announcement by the BBC, who had made the decision by penning the event as, “Who Year’s Day.”
“We’re delighted the Doctor and her companions will be welcoming BBC One audiences into 2019 with this exciting new episode. The Doctor’s fans are in for a special treat on the first day of the new year,” said Charlotte Moore, Director of Content.
One Snazzy Scarf for Doctor Who!
The actual title of the episode—which will be penned by Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip—has yet to actually be revealed, but the first synopsis has been released alongside the image of the Doctor and her friends, as they appear to be investigating a strange new threat that will be coming to them for this New Year’s Special.
As the BBC’s official Doctor Who Twitter page reads:
More Details Revealed – As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring, from across the centuries of Earth’s history. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth? #DoctorWho . pic.twitter.com/NVJtr9fidS

Although many Whovians will be at a loss of words on the lack of an episode this Christmas, one thing to keep a sharp eye on is the snazzy scarf Doctor Who is wearing for the New Year’s Special. The new photo has surfaced online on the New Year’s special, which been released on Twitter by BBC, showing off Doctor Who donning a snazzy scarf.
If anything, the real question is what will come next for the Doctor after the New Year’s Special!
A Snazzy Scarf and The Future of Doctor Who!
Besides the snazzy scarf that is present to keep a somewhat holiday spirit for this forthcoming episode; what does this shift say about the outlook on the rest of the season?
Many Whovians have cited the ups and downs from this season as a difficult run, to say the least, with many pointing out that the cancellation of the Christmas episode to be yet another sign that the writers are running out of ideas. However, ratings for the show have also argued that things are only getting better.
Not to mention that the decision may have been the result of a number of factors, including a shift into different territory with the special, competitive viewing, or more time on the writer’s part for a story as grand as this one is shaping up to be!
Whovians can expect to see that snazzy scarf and the New Year’s Special Jan. 1, 2019.
And for those out of the loop, be sure to catch up on the upcoming Doctor Who episodes. Episodes 9 and 10 air on the BBC this December, so stay tuned!
