Dragoncon is 11 days away . . . 11 days! We are almost down to single digits people!
As I mentioned in previous Dragoncon Diaries, my Pudding Carl and Jem costumes are complete. The one costume that was in question was Lollipop Chainsaw, which was pending James Gunn’s attendance at Dragoncon. During a recent Periscope session, James announced that he is not moving to Atlanta (for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 pre-production work) until two weeks after Dragoncon, so he will unfortunately not be in town to attend Dragoncon. So I am eliminating that costume from my rotation.
Bombshell Batwoman is finally complete! The dress came together wonderfully. The tricky part was constructing the hat – adding the wings and the large bat symbol. I also added small bat symbols to the back of my shoes. I want to wear these shoes outside of only this costume, so those symbols are velcroed onto the back so that they can be removed.
Agent Maria Hill’s uniform and Rocket Raccoon’s jumpsuit are currently at the seamstress for final alterations. My boots for Agent Hill just arrived, I still need to customize them by adding the shin guards on the front. We are also putting the finishing touches on Rocket’s reconstructed backpack.
As for the Adventure Time group, which we will be wearing in the Dragoncon parade on Saturday, Fionna and Marshall Lee are complete. I am putting the finishing touches on Prince Gumball. The tunic is coming along. This has been a challenge as far as the sewing goes. I’ve never done puff and slash sleeves, or constructed a garment quite like this before. So there has been a learning curve. The accessories (his crown, brooch, and belt buckle) are constructed. They just need to be painted and figure out how to attach them.
Capable’s wig just arrived, and it looks awesome! I’m currently working on the dress, which I initially thought would be a simple sewing project. I have been working on the draping while I watch TV at night, pinning it on the dressform as I sit on the couch. There is a lot of hand tacking and sewing, which is time consuming. But it is slowly coming together.
I hope to have one final Dragoncon Diary to share before the big event. Right now, I need to get back to work! Until then . . . you can check out more progress reports from other cosplayers in the video series Days ‘Til DragonCon, brought to you by Word of the Nerd, in conjunction with Shattered Stitch Cosplay and Saturday Morning Cosplay.
