Elodie Yung has been cast as Elektra in the second season of the popular Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil, which is set to air next year. Elodie Yung is an actress of French and Cambodian descent primarily known for her work in the films G.I. Joe: Retaliation and the The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011).
The casting of Elektra is not entirely out of the blue. Although Elektra was mentioned by Foggy during a Season 1 flashback, she did not actually appear. As noted in a recent article for Variety magazine, the show’s casting description describes Elektra as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”
This vague casting notice leaves a lot of speculation on whether Elektra could be either an adversary or a tentative ally for Matt Murdock. There is always also the possibility that Elektra could be a Season 2 love interest for Matt, even though he already has one (like that’s ever stopped the adding of new love interests to a show). Elektra has also been portrayed on screen by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 Daredevil movie.
Elektra isn’t the first character to have been cast in season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil. Last month, Jon Bernthal was added to the cast of Marvel’s Daredevil as Frank Castle, also known as “The Punisher.” Since Frank Castle is famously known as an anti-hero within the Marvel universe, his role in the upcoming season is also fairly ambiguous.
