The End is Near for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Is Season 5 the End for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Spoiler Alert: Catch Up on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Before Reading!

The end is nigh for Agent Coulson and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Five years ago, fans rejoiced at the reemergence of the beloved Phil Coulson after his untimely death in The Avengers. In the long run, though, he has been living on borrowed time.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #1“As revealed in this season, Agent Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) is to end up dying by the finale,” according to

But Coulson’s isn’t the only life on the line. The whole show is now preparing to end since “this season finale is penned as the series finale,” though “there is always hope for the show to be renewed for a sixth season.”

The reason the show has been placed on the at-risk list is because of its steady decline in ratings. It’s no surprise, since ABC announced the scheduling change from its Tuesday slot to the dreaded Friday slot. When that happens, it seems the death knell is beginning to sound.

Interestingly, executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen noted that they have been treating each season ending as if it were its last.

100 Episodes

News of the show’s ending has come as it “hits the 100-episode milestone” as of March 9. In the beginning, even S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s executive producer was aiming for a five-year stint.

“We were just trying to make it not suck,” said Jed Whedon. Instead of projecting ahead, they focused “on each episode as it came.”

As it happened, this worked well for the show’s longevity. Even if S.H.I.E.L.D. ends this season, the cast, crew, and creators have a lot to be proud about. More than 100 episodes and a well-done and well-acted series is a great achievement.

Bloopers and Auditions

While fans may be preparing themselves for the end, at least there are some fun distractions online to take our minds off the seemingly inevitable. You can read about the cast members’ show auditions. Watch “Bloopers of Shield” through on YouTube. While all of them are funny, it’s especially satisfying to see Ming-Na Wen break Agent May’s steely character and burst into laughter.
