Avengers: Endgame Snaps Away Avatar’s Record
As a famous person once said “Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same” Avengers: Endgame has finally beat Avatars record. Kevin Feige announced this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con that Avengers: Endgame had taken the record. Pulling in an impressive $2.709 billion at the worldwide box office surpassing Avatars total gross of $2.7897 billion. Disney’s recent re-release of the film helped it achieve the final hurdle to take the long-standing record.
Swimming in Cash
It is all a win-win for Disney at this point as Deadline notes that with the Fox merger that Disney owns Avatar as well so they own the top 2 highest-grossing movies ever, that is not all though. Since Disney closed its $71.3 billion acquisition of Fox, “Avatar” is now part of the Disney empire. That means the Buena Vista company is currently home to seven of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time. So basically Disney is Scrooge Mc Duck swimming in a vault full of cash is the exact imagery you should be seeing
There is no sight of Disney slowing down anytime soon either. With the huge Phase 4 of the MCU news released there are still big things happening at the house of Mouse with Marvel. That is also talking about their new streaming service Disney+ that looks to make a big splash for the company as well. All of that is on the Marvel side of things as well. With the merger with Fox Disney owns a ton of other very popular brands now, plus obviously, they have all of their original content as well.
No matter what you think of the record it is still pretty cool. To see this film universe evolve from Iron Man to what culminated in Avengers: Endgame. With twenty-two movies under its belt and over eleven years, they were able to keep the momentum going and have tons of people invested in this universe.
As with everything else records are made to be broken so who knows how long the Avengers: Endgame record will stand? Could another MCU movie beat it or can some other franchise come out in the future that totally eclipses what Avengers: Endgame did? Only time will tell, but for right now the MCU continues to rule the box office.
