Saturday morning in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con opened with the Warner Bros. films panel. This is one of the most popular panels of the annual convention, as fans get to view trailers for the biggest movies of the year. One of those is the latest installment from the Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It is the second of five all-new films from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. It features the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne).

Where We Left Off

At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, the powerful Dark Wizard, Gellart Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) was captured by the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). However, Grindelwald, who is considered one of the “Most Dangerous Dark Wizards of All Time,” was able to escape to gather followers in his efforts for pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings.

Where We Continue On

In The Crimes of Grindelwald, we follow Newt Scamander and a much younger Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) as they attempt to take down Grindelwald while facing new threats in a more divided wizarding world.

We begin with a young Scamander taking Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons from Professor Dumbledore at Hogwarts. Throughout the trailer, we see several familiar faces from the first Fantastic Beasts movie. Katherine Waterston (as Porpentina Goldstein), Dan Fogler (as Jacob Kowalski), Alison Sudol (as Queenie Goldstein), Ezra Miller (as Credence Barebone), Zoë Kravitz (as Leta Lestrange), and Carmen Ejogo (as President Seraphina Picquery) all reprise their roles. We also meet other infamous wizards from Harry Potter lore, including Nicolas Flamel.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald releases in theaters, Real D 3D, and IMAX 3D on on November 16, 2018.
