More about Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen:
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen has been the topic of some controversy. First, people were disappointed by the reboot’s recast of its eponymous half-demon. In the 2004 film and 2008 sequel, Hellboy was played by Ron Perlman. As stated above, David Harbour (whose official and popular “nerd cred” is fairly recent and only really available through a streaming service) will be taking on the role in the upcoming film. Many people expressed their disappointment with the recasting, even when this new image was released, which other people noted looks remarkably like Ron Perlman. It is not clear whether Harbour’s performance as Hellboy will stand up to Perlman’s (although there is absolutely no reason to think it will not), but his appearance certainly seems to make a statement.
Additionally, actor Ed Skrein recently dropped out of the film when he discovered that the character for which he was cast, Major Ben Daimio, was originally of Japanese descent. It looks like Daniel Dae Kim, who is a Korean American actor, will take over the role from Skrein.
Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen will also star Milla Jovovich and Ian McShane. Neil Marshall will be directing the reboot (Guillermo del Toro directed the films in which Ron Perlman starred as Hellboy), which is currently scheduled to be coming to a theatre near you sometime in 2018.
